FAQ

Does it hurt?

For SHR hair removal treatments, the simple answer is that it does not hurt at all. You may feel a slight warm sensation as the laser fires, but there is no longer the painful “zap” that was felt with older IPL technology. For other services such as pigmentation treatment, you may feel a light flick, similar to a rubber band being flicked onto your skin.

Does it work on everybody?

While light skin and dark hair responds most favourably, new SHR technology also enables the successful treatment of dark skin, or fine lighter coloured hairs. Some medications can preclude you from receiving laser treatment. If you are not sure, contact us or your GP for advice.

How long does it take?

Times vary depending on the treatment being done and the area which you are treating. An SHR treatment on underarms will only take around 5 minutes, while lower legs ( from knee down) can take up to half an hour.

Is it permanent?

Results vary between people, but the best way to think of it is permanent hair reduction. For some people it will be a permanent solution, but for others they may need “top up” sessions every 6-12 months or so.

How many treatments will I need?

Best results are achieved with around 8 treatments, spaced approximately 3-6 weeks apart.

What do I need to do to prepare for my treatment?

For at least a week before the first treatment, intense sun exposure or visits to sunbeds should be avoided. Hairs should also not be waxed or plucked within six weeks of your first treatment, however you can shave at any time. Ideally the area being treated should be shaved the day before your session, however we can do this for you if necessary.

Do I need to take special care after my hair removal treatment?

After your first treatment, you will be given a comprehensive after laser care sheet, but generally there is no special requirements following your visits, other than using a good quality sunscreen (spf 30-50) if you are going to be out in the sun. Shaving is possible at any time after your treatment, but hair should not be plucked or waxed.
